In Memory

Fern Hanson (Tunney)

n Tunney
Fern Lucille Tunney (nee Hanson) It is with sadness and love that we announce the peaceful passing of Fern Tunney, surrounded by friends and family on July 14, 2011. Fern was ever gracious, loving and caring to those around her, especially during her courageous battle with cancer. Fern is predeceased by her `Papa' Bill Osler. Left to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Vincent Tunney, her utmost pride and joy, sons Lukas Vincent and Zachary Colton. She will also be deeply missed by her beloved mother, Pearl Osler and father, Ken Hanson, loving sister Roanne Olfert (Dale) and loving brother Darrel Hanson (Tammy). Fern was a proud auntie to Leslie (Jason), Kelly, Lindsey, Riley, Andrew, Kristie, Cindy, Jordan, Shelby and Heidi. There was a place in her heart for her special aunties, uncles, cousins and the extended Tunney family. She also leaves behind her extended family of nieces, nephews and sisters by heart, who will always be blessed to be part of Fern's family. Fern was born on May 13, 1960 in Saskatoon attending Mount Royal Collegiate and U of S, obtaining a Business Administrative Certificate. Fern had 30 years experience working in administrative and executive assistant positions. Most recently, she was thrilled to rejoin STEC (Tourism Saskatchewan). Fern enjoyed her many friends and colleagues at STEC, as well as the incredible support of the organization during her illness. Fern carried out her positions with great pride and dedication, most notably, her exceptional organizational and people skills. Fern was an avid volunteer, both in career and personal life. She won the President's Trophy from the United Way two years in a row. She was actively involved in Lukas and Zachary's hockey, volunteering each season with the Saskatoon Bobcat Hockey zone. Fernie's two great loves in life were her family and her friends. She supported Lukas and Zachary in all their activities and was their number one fan and hockey Mom with her hockey buttons and Tim Horton's cup in hand. She instilled within Lukas and Zachary, the same values of respect, friendship, loyalty and generosity that she possessed, as well as a love for music and zest for life. In recent years, Fern loved going to Waskesiu and Candle Lake, and peaceful times at the Stardom acreage. Fern had an infinite capacity for love, touching the hearts of so many friends with her heartwarming smile, always accompanied with an abundance of hugs and smooches. Throughout her illness, she always remained a comfort to all who knew her, a shoulder to lean on, sharing her words of wisdom. She enriched the lives of everyone she touched with class and style. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Fern's own special nurse, her auntie, Joyce Hanson, for the love and care she provided throughout Fern's journey and the many gifts of knitting apparel she created. Special thanks to our many neighbors and friends especially those at St. Philips School for their kind support, gifts and kindness. Fern treasured her long time friendship with Bonnie Ish and her continued support during Fern's illness. Thanks to Elizabeth Nickel for her spiritual comfort during the final months of Fern's journey. Thank you to the many doctors, nurses and staff of the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic and St. Paul's Palliative Care Unit. For friends so wishing, memorial donations in memory of Fern can be made to a trust fund for Lukas and Zachary, c/o Box 1004 Martensville SK, S0K 2T0. The Celebration of Fern's Life will be held on Tuesday, July 19th at 1:30 p.m. at Lakeview Free Methodist Church, Hwy 16 and Boychuk Drive, Saskatoon.
